Losing Focus? 3 Tips to Help You Get on Track

We all have days when it’s hard to stay on track and stay focused. It’s not an easy task sometimes. Here are three easyways you can get back in the right direction when you’re losing focus.

Pick One Task

Do you try to do too many things at the same time? Focus on one straightforward task, accomplish that, and then start on the next task. Put on your mental blinders and get it done. Doing this usually brings your focus right back. After you have completed a few tasks, you’ll notice that you canmultitask if the need arises.

Overall, plan to start your day with a little preparation and divide your work into chunks that you can accomplish one at a time. Ignore the impulse to multi-task. Thiscan make you feel like you are being industrious and making a lot of progress. However, studies show that you’llfocus better with better productivity by tackling one task at a time.

Review andReassess

Are you unable to focus because you get distracted at times? This minimizes your success in getting your task at hand done.Pause for a minute to assess what you’re doing. What is the problem? Do you lack enthusiasm for what you are doing or did you not sleep well the night before? Maybe you have a headache or don’t feel well. Once you know what’s causing you to lose focus, you can deal with it.

  • Put yourself in distraction-free mode.
  • Monitor your mind wandering
  • Plan for time away from your desk

Work In Shorter Bursts And Take Breaks

Some days you just can’t focus as well or for as long as you usually do and that’s ok. No matter what the reason, accept it and find a way to deal with it. One way to do this effectively is to work in shorter bursts and take more frequent breaks. If you’re used to working highly focused in 45-minute chunks of time, break it down into 15-minute bursts instead. Get out your timer, set it for 15 minutes and get to work. When the timer goes off, give yourself permission to take a 5-minute break to recharge before diving back in for another 15-minute session.

You may not be as productive as you would be on a day when you’re feeling great, but these tips will ensure you’re staying on track. And who knows, you may find that after an hour or two you’re on track again and getting back into full focus mode.
